Photoshoot 1 for Ancillary Tasks

From the research my group has carried out, we are aware of the clothing and poses necessary to portray the ideal characteristics for our actress. Using my dad's camera, I took the pictures with advice from the rest of the group on locations, angles and Ellie's poses. Here is a selection of the successful pictures I took:

Portrait shot of the actress
This first image is a basic picture to show the actress we are using. However, without any creative camera angles/ poses it does not allow the audience to understand her personality like necessary and so we will experiment with this in the next photo's.

 Staircase Shots
These above pictures show Ellie posing on the stairs. This hallway is featured in the music video and so creates synergy within the products; the stripy carpet is effective as the colours link to those in her clothing while the lines draw the audiences attention, however this may prevent focus being taken off the model. In addition, if we were to keep the carpet in the image after editing, it would mean also keeping the above background which is not very thought-out and boring. The left hand image is darker than the other two making the colours less bright and quite dull; there is also a dark shadow on her left. In addition the wall shows strips of light from the window but this could be removed using Adobe Photoshop and so is not a problem.

Using the same setting and staircase, we decided to experiment with different angles. The left, from an almost birds-eye-view gives the impression of vulnerability as we look from above which does link to the characters persona as she is clearly upset in the video, however, it may make her look too innocent. The right hand photo is from below and so gives the opposite view of the girl. It makes her look very important and dominant; while this links to her rebellious, carefree personality, she also needs to appear quite frustrated and unsure about what to do which this angle and photo does not suggest.

Outside Shots
These two pictures show the model looking quite relaxed, leaning against a wall. The background colours of green and brown link to her outfit and how she feels; frustrated and unhappy, while the pose makes her seem quite realxed and carefree.

These photos are in the same location but show different angles. The lighting in all is quite bright and has no shadows which I belive makes them attractive. The right hand picture (as in the similar staircase angle) makes her look a bit too in control and focused. The left two pictures however are from the same heights roughly but different side angles, both showing her looking into the distance calmly. This makes her look lost but does not quite link with her wild image in the music video.

These two are similar pictures and make the model look carefree and attitudey as planned. However, the similar clothing and background colours prevent her from standing out to the audience as the main focus. However, this can relate to the theme of the music video which suggests she is being ignored and no longer important in her boyfriends life.

Close Up Shot
Unlike the medium-long shots before, I decided to try a close up shot and therefore portray her expression and feelings more. However, I feel that the Doc Martin boots are an important part of the girls image, making her look quite fierce and should therefore be included in the photo. This picture alone could convey the girl as sweet/ vulnerable and not wild like intended.

Long/ establishing shot
This was taken from across the road and shows the girl sitting on the wall outside her house. However, it is very difficult to see the girl and so will be inappropriate to use.

  1. Consider using camera angles to suggest that she is dominent or vulnerable.
